The Myth of Abundance.

It’s the end of a decade and a time for new thinking.

The debate that marked the last decade has been what I call “the myth of abundance”. And I hope to build a bridge for everyone to ust get over the whole thing. "The Secret" is a delusion.

Thomas Troward, a great philosopher in my opinion, was a leader in his time, one of the founders of “The New Thought Movement” suggested that thought precedes physical form and that "the action of Mind plants that nucleus which, if allowed to grow undisturbed, will eventually attract to itself all the conditions necessary for its manifestation in outward visible form."

He was credited with inspiring the movie “The Secret” and the laws of attraction as we know them today. In fact if you watch the film again you will see that even the film makers credit him with the concept during the introduction.

Thomas Troward, died in 1916. An important fact when considering the myth of abundance, because it is important to understand that “The Secret” along with the laws of attraction became such big influencers in the last decade not because they were insightful or even true, but because of a successful marketing strategy.

To be clear, Thomas Troward's new thought movement has nothing to do with the pop-culture that is known as The Laws of Attraction, which I call the Myth of abundance.

The problem with the modern interpretation is that is wildly inaccurate. The thought of a Ferrari does not attract a real Ferrari, nor is possible for Ziyi Zhang, Megan Fox & Helen Mirren to all morph into my dream women and bare three children for me, no matter how much I meditate on that image.

Larry King was quoted for saying “If the Universe manifests abundance at a mere thought, why is there so much poverty, starvation, and killing?" He has valid point, but he too is inaccurate.

The point I want you get from this, is that Abundance does exist, but only in everything that matters.

Money, gold, property investments, Ferraris & Louis Vuitton fall under different laws. The laws of scarcity. Scarcity drives all material things. Often referred to as the principle law of economics “demand & supply” where scarcity makes the world go round.

The law of abundance however, applies to the little things we spend so little time chasing… you know… knowledge, love, passion, joy, nature. These are the pursuits that manifest abundance because the more you give, the more you have. And the opposite is true also. This is true abundance.

So now that I have ended the debate on whether “The Secret” is a reality or a hoax. Now that you understand that it is neither & both, depending on what you are investing your life in… lets move past it. Let’s use this knowledge constructively.

Put simply.
• Abundance can only exist if the opposite (Scarcity) also exists.
• Material pursuits should be governed by the laws of scarcity.
• Virtue & wisdom rule the world of abundance.
• To experience either, chose your pursuit carefully.

Thomas Troward also proposed another concept, much less discussed and far more relevant in today’s world. The law of Cause & Effect. Your thoughts & actions have consequences both directly and indirectly, so choose them with great care.

You now know this, and you have no excuse for pretending otherwise. So I will leave you with one more quote, a Freemynd once said “knowledge that is not shared & invested in action, is far worse than ignorance” and my question to you is, what will you do with knowledge?
